Frequenze Radeon 9700

In passato le frequenze di funzionamento delle varie schede potenziate da chipset ATi fu un vero tormentone, visto il divario presente tra schede di diversi produttori.

Onde evitare di ripetere cio che è avvenuto qualche tempo fa, ATi ha imposto ai propri partners tali frequenze, che si pensa verranno rispettati da tutti!

RADEON 9000 - 250/200 MHz per chip e memoria video;
RADEON 9000 PRO - 275/275 MHz per chip e memoria video;
RADEON 9700 - 300/600 MHz per chip e memoria video;
RADEON 9700 PRO - 325/620 MHz per chip e memoria video.

KT400 round-up

Tom's Hardware ha realizzato una comparativa tra 4 mother-board, che utilizzano il nuovissimo chipset di casa VIA, ovvero il KT400. Le novità introdotte più rilevanti sono il supporto per l'AGP 8x e quello per le DDR400, seppur non ufficiale.

Le schede madri testate sono la Asus A7V8X, la Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, la MSI KT4 Ultra e la QDI KuDoZ 7X.



I risultati comparati con il KT333 non sono molto incoraggianti... almeno considerando il salto generazionale.

Recensioni Abit IT7

Overclockers Online e The DDR Zone hanno recensito la motherboard di Abit per P4, la IT7, equipaggiata con il miglior chipset per P4 del momento, l'Intel i845E.

ABIT sure has a winner with their IT7 MAX Pentium4 motherboard! That's for sure. The board combines what's probably the best Pentium4 chipset at the moment, the i845E, with a truckload of features, excellent layout, stability and performance. The overclocking potential of the IT7 is also simply impressive.

DirectX 9 a novembre

Inizialmente, le nuove API di Microsoft erano pianificate per ottobre. Purtroppo, le DirectX 9 hanno subito un nuovo slittamento, infatti la loro uscita è prevista per la fine di novembre.

Attualmente l'unica scheda disponibile sul mercato è la Radeon 9700 di ATi, che purtroppo è inutilizzabile appunto con queste nuove librerie, almeo che non si faccia ricorso alle versione beta pubblicate di recente.

Per tutti quelli che devono comprare una nuova scheda video, The Tech Report ha realizzato una comparativa tra GF4 Ti4200, caratterizzate dall'ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo.

Un fanbus contro il rumore

Virtual Hide-out ha pubblicato una recensione di un fanbus, destinato alla regolazione del voltaggio delle ventole, permettendo così di ridurre il rumore prodotto dalle stesse ...oggetto molto ambito dagli overclockers e dai modders di mezzo mondo!

For the overclocker and case modder, fan noise is nothing new. This is the price that must be paid when one wants to obtain maximum cooling for their computer hardware. To overcome this, the fanbus/baybus was invented, to not only centralize fan wiring within the inside of a PC, but also to lower noise by allowing fans to be turned off when extra cooling was not needed. One probably doesn't need a >100CFM fan running while just listening to MP3s, and the noise from such a fan would probably detract from the musical experience. Soon, rheostats began to be used for fan control, as they were able to provide a variable resistor in the circuit that effectively was able to control fan speed, so instead of just being have on/off control, one could regulate the fan's speed with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

KT400 anche da Soyo

Anche SOYO ha annunciato la serie KT400 Dragon, schede madri equipaggiate con il VIA Kt400.
Tra le features segnaliamo il supporto per memoria DDR333/400, AGP 8x, controller Raid ATA-133 e Serial ATA, audio 5.1 canali, USB 2.0 e scheda di rete 10/100mbps integrata.

Comparativa Pc3200

ForumOC ha realizzato una comparativa tra le ultime memorie attualmente disponibili sul mercato. I modelli analizzati sono: Kingmax DDR400, Mushkin PC3200, Corsair PC3200 CL2, Corsair PC-3200, Geil PC3500, OCZ PC-3200, OCZ PC-3200 Rev 2, OCZ PC-3500 e tutti i test sono stati effettuati su una EPoX 8k3a e Thunderbird 1333mhz.

I vari banchi sono stati testati a diverse frequenze operative e timings. Da segnalare le performance dei moduli OCZ 3500 e 3200 rev2 e Corsair PC3200 CL2, che registrano prestazioni analoghe dato l'utilizzo di un chip identico.

Recensione IWill 845G

Sul sito TBreak è stata pubblicata la recensione della scheda madre per Intel Pentium 4 di IWill, dotata dell'ottimo chipset i845G.
Le features sono molto interessanti: supporto per cpu a 400 e 533mhz di bus, audio Realtek ALC650 a 6 canali, supporto ATA133, controller raid Promise 20275 ATA/133 più un connettore Serial ATA. Da notare purtroppo la presenza di 2 soli slot per memorie DDR.

Pentium 4 @ 4Ghz

Su Mauropaketti.com è stato pubblicato un test di overclocking dell'ultimo processore di casa Intel, il Pentium 4 2,8ghz.

Oltre alla suddetta CPU, è stata impegata una Asus P4T533-C modificata con ram Samsung RDRAM Pc800, una PNY GeForce 4 MX440 e l'os Windows XP. Al raffreddamento della cpu hanno pensato 10litri di LN2.

I risultati danno dell'incredibile...
