L'anti-iPod Microsoft Zune è stato finalmente lanciato ufficialmente nella giornata di ieri. Caratteristica molto interessante del dispositivo, è quello di riuscire ad immagazzinare e riprodurre numerosi file video.

Proprio a tal proposito arriva la notizia da ATI che il suo tool Avivo Video Converter integra un profilo per la creazione di video ottimizzati per Zune senza bisogno di un'ulteriore transcoding ed in tempi fino al 80% inferiori, sfruttando la capacità elaborativa delle schede grafiche della famiglia X1000. 

Tutti i possessori quindi di una Radeon X1000 possono scaricare gratuitamente il software. Per chi volesse maggiori informazioni, ATI mette a disposizione di tutti una guida per la conversione dei propri video, che possono essere sincronizzati in automatico dal dispositivo senza il bisogno di alcun'altro intervento da parte dell'utente.

Niente CPU single core basate su Conroe-L da Intel?

Secondo alcuni rumors emersi un paio di mesi fa Intel aveva in progetto rilasciare dei processori della serie Pentium E1000 basate sull'archiettura Conroe-L a singolo core.

Attese per il secondo quarto del prossimo anno, queste cpu sono state cancellate, a favore della nuova serie Pentium E2000, dual core basate sul core Conroe da 2mb di cache nativa che arriveranno nel terzo quarto del 2007. Secondo HKEPC i primi modelli saranno clockati a 1.6ghz e 1.8ghz, avranno FSB a 800mhz e 1mb di cache e mancheranno di supporto alla virtualizzazione.

Il single core Conroe-L apparirà invece soltanto per i nuovi chip Celeron attesi per il secondo quarto del prossimo anno.

HD DVD per Xbox 360 utilizzabile su PC

Il lettore HD DVD di Microsoft progettato per Xbox 360 a quanto pare, è utilizzabile anche sui normali PC dotati di sistema operativo Windows XP.

Collegando la periferica al sistema questa viene immediatamente riconosciuta, tuttavia si è reso necessario utilizzare un driver prodotto da Toshiba (che è anche il costruttore del device stesso), in quanto Microsoft non produce un proprio driver. Utilizzando un player compatibile col nuovo formato come ad esempio WinDVD 8.0, è stato possibile riprodurre senza problemi film su supporto HD-DVD.

Con circa $200 dollari si potrà quindi acquistare un lettore HD-DVD, utilizzabile sia su console Xbox 360 che su PC, anche se c'è il rischio che Microsoft possa introdurre misure protettive atte ad impedire l'uso dei propri lettori su piattaforme che non siano quelle della propria consolle di gioco.

ATi al lavoro su un nuovo card design per R600?

Le nuove GeForce 8800GTX hanno impressionato, oltre che per le loro indubbie performance, anche per le loro dimensioni, di certo non esigue, in quanto ben superiori ai 25 cm di lunghezza.

A quanto sembrerebbe i problemi di dimensioni affliggerebbero anche ATi: le prime schede dotate di R600 rilasciate agli sviluppatori  di videogames infatti raggiungono i 30 centimetri. Tuttavia, come il sito VR-Zone riporta, la casa canadese sta lavorando su un nuovo card design, che accorcerebbe la scheda, portandola quantomeno alle dimensioni di una GeForce 8800GTX. 

Per quanto riguarda i consumi, si conferma un valore indicativo intorno ai 225-300W conforme alle specifiche PCI-SIG. Sulla scheda, oltre al classico connettore PCI-Express 6 pin, sarà introdotto un nuovo connettore 2x4pin, per un approvvigionamento supplementare di energia.

HIS ci annuncia la produzione della sua nuova scheda video HIS X1650XT IceQ Turbo GDDR3.

Thecus ci informa che il loro nuovo prodotto, il NAS N5200 High performance, è stato testato dal sito Tom's Networking, settore che fa capo al sito Tom's Hardware tedesco.

Questo sito ha prodotto un interessante comparativa con ben 13 Network Attached Storage di brand diversi ed il Thecus N5200 ha stabilito la miglior prestazione in termini di scrittura di un file da 1 Gb, staccando nettamente gli altri prodotti della confronto. In termini di percentuale ha surclassato i concorrenti risultando il 17,5% più veloce rispetto al secondo arrivato.
