PLANET Technology Corporation today announces the new cost effective 802.11g Wireless LAN PCI Adapter (WL-8316). Complying with the newly approved 802.11g standard, the WL-8316 provides faster wireless connection for laptop users who want to access network resources. The gadget delivers data at speeds up to 54Mbps, 5 times data rate faster than 802.11b.

The WL-8316 provides 360 degrees' coverage of wireless access by employing a built-in dipole antenna. Support of 64 and 128-bit WEP encryption plus WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) high-level encryption keeps your wireless network from unauthorized access and ensures secure data transfer.

Backward compatible with 802.11b products, allowing interoperability with any Wi-Fi certified wireless 802.11b/g products, both 11b and 11g clients can reside on the same network. The WL-8316 can operate in either Ad-Hoc mode (Point to Point/Point to Multipoint without Access Point) or Infrastructure mode (Point to Point/Point to Multipoint with Access Point).
Support of most operating systems such as Windows98SE/Me/2000/XP/Server 2003 offers greater scalability and usability, making the device a perfect choice for users who are getting tired of running cables or in constant need of wireless access.

- Support of Power Save mode
- Plug-and-Play installation

Application

Infrastructure
For some environments with limitations on running Ethernet cables around, simply install the WL-8316 on your desktop or laptop, and users thus can get connected to the wired Ethernet through a wireless access point to access the network resources within the coverage of wireless signals. The installation of multiple access points enlarges the coverage of wireless signals and ensures seamless network access for mobile users.

Ad-Hoc
Need connecting several desktop PC or notebooks wirelessly? Configuring all the wireless adapters to Ad-Hoc mode without wireless access point is the easiest and costly way to meet this demand.
